Penguin B is available as just composite airframe or as an airframe equipped with servos and engine. Quick Release Tail-boom Joints

Tail- booms are equipped with a purpose developed 6061 T6 aluminum joints with integrated electrical connections providing quick release using single bolt. No wire connectors are needed and as result - better reliability and faster assembly

Removable V-Tail

Integrated GPS Bay

Penguin's wing has special GPS cover and the internal wing space allocated for the GPS receiver and the ground plane. Cover is made from thin rf-transparent glass fiber and provides clean flow over the fuselage.

Modular Design

All components of Penguin B are easily removable and completely interchangeable. Wing splits in three 1.1 meter sections

Field-Swappable Payload Module

Penguin B has a swappable payload module that can be removed in seconds and used for various payloads. Payload module is inserted from the underneath of fuselage and includes a large section of the lower fuselage surface to facilitate the installation of camera gimbals, antennas and heat radiators. Payload module can be optionally sealed.

Oversize Access Covers With Quick Release

Two oversize fuselage covers are located at the payload area and are equipped with 1/4 turn quick release DZUS fasteners; the third access hatch is located under the wing mount and provides access to fuel tank and landing gear area.

High Lift System

The optimized high lift flap system provides stall speeds of <18 m/s sustaining excellent flight handling qualities due to a well designed V-tail geometry.

Modular composite structure, fast assembly, large access hatches, removable payload bay, are the key features of the Penguin B innovative design. Sleek and efficient design gives the best in class performance. Optimized for endurance, Penguin has enough internal volume to lift 7.5 liters of fuel which will provide 20+ hours endurance using efficient Honda 4 stroke engine. The optimized high lift flap system provides stall speeds of <13 m/s while giving excellent flight handling qualities due to a well designed V-tail geometry.

If you would like to reduce time spent on component integration and get to autonomous flight as soon as possible, UAV Factory offers engine and servo package that can be factory installed into our Penguin B composite airframe.

This package will help you to concentrate on directly increasing your product value, developing your custom unmanned solution or research, testing and validation of your product.

Penguin B comes completely ready for autopilot and payload integration. Each component is matched and validated for reliability and performance.

This configuration will provide endurance of up to 6 hours and maximum payload of up to 8.5 kg.

If longer endurance is needed, optional 7.5 liter fuel tank and onboard generator system will yield 10+ hours of flight.

Onboard Generator System

A complete 80W onboard generator system can be optionally installed on Penguin B airframe if ordered with 28cc engine and servo package.
 
 

Key Features

System consists of a Generator Power Unit (GPU) and a belt driven industrial grade generator capable of supplying 80W continuous power during cruise.

Generator Power Unit is designed to provide onboard dual voltage regulated power supply of 6 and 12 Volts. Despite small size, power unit offers outstanding efficiency as well as unique features such as the ability to monitor load, battery current, engine rpm, generator and battery voltage through RS232 communication- as result all power distribution parameters can be transmitted to the ground station and monitored during the flight.

Penguin B 4 servo V-tail option

In order to substantially increase the reliability of the system, UAV Factory can install additional servos into the V-tail control surfaces. In case of the tail-plane servo fail, Penguin B UAV can safely return home and land.

UAV Car top launcher

Car-top launcher is a convenient, reliable and low-cost option for runway-independent launching of the Penguin B UAV.

Key Features

Car-top launcher can be mounted on all cars that accept THULE’s Rapid Aero ™ roof rack. Installation on car roof and removal of the launcher takes less than two minutes. Penguin UAV can be transported when mounted on the car-top launcher with the wing tips removed and secured with safety-pins.

When compared against catapult launcher, the car-top launcher is more than three times less expensive than the closest alternative, and does not need maintenance or assembly. Car-top launcher is light, small and it is easy to store and transport.

Using the car-top launcher, the Penguin UAV can be launched from any surface, where a car can reach the takeoff speed, which is approximately 70 km/h. This launching method offers high reliability under the strong and gusty side-wind conditions.

The car-top launcher has a convenient removable starter assembly with an integrated Lithium Ion battery and MOSFET switch. Once the UAV engine is running, the starter assembly can be easily removed.

UAV Factory’s Ground Control Station (GCS) contains all hardware for controlling a high performance unmanned aircraft vehicles and managing payload. GCS is based on Panasonic’s field proven CF-31 rugged laptop, has additional 17’’super-bright touch screen payload display, and flexible power system with dual battery setup with advanced status monitoring features.

GCS can be configured to accept autopilot-specific ground side hardware. Batteries can be hot-swapped without switching off the system, allowing for an increase in operation time.

GCS has a set of integrated safety features, including over voltage protection, over current protection, reverse voltage protection as well as battery over-discharge protection. With the standard configuration with 3W28i gasoline engine actual flight tests were performed. The Penguin flew for 6 hours on 0.8 gal (404 oz., 3 liters) of fuel with a simulated payload of 5.5 lbs. (2.5 kg). The engine consumed on average 1.1 oz/min. This is with perfectly tuned autopilot, and aircraft in cruise condition with little reserve.

Car top launch system

Car-top launch system is mounted on a car using standard THULE rack mounts. Smart lever arrangement mechanically unhooks the UAV when the desired angle of attack is obtained. Angle of attack is controlled by the autopilot input and the takeoff procedure is the same as for autonomous runway takeoff. The Penguin B is available in several forms. These components are available installed at the factory in Latvia (North East Europe). TBM can provide a variety of other fuel cell and electronic combinations which are application based.

TBM can install other electronics such as a RC receiver, autopilot, GPS, modem, fixed camera, gimbal mounted camera, etc. at the Florida facility.

Spare parts are available.

The servos offered from the factory are high quality yet economical and are the best choice.

The factory offers 3,000cc (total volume) fuel tanks which offer up to several hours of operation (depending on workload/speed/throttle setting). More fuel can be carried onboard. Total payload with fuel is 25.35 lbs. TBM can add fuel tanks as required to meet end use requirements.

Autopilots typically range from $5,000 and up.

GPS, modems, etc. typically range from $5,000 and up.

Cameras range from several hundred dollars for fixed focal length, still and fixed to aircraft, to several thousand dollars for zoom, video and still, gimbal mounted/remotely operated. Also, infra-red or thermal imaging are available.

Ground control stations are typically a laptop computer though other portable devices may be used.

TBM can set up and test fly a completed project if requested.

  1. Acceptance: UAV Factory accepts orders only by way of written Purchase Order specifying the UAV Factory part numbers or full details of any special requirements. All orders are subject to acceptance by UAV Factory. Submission of a Purchase Order shall constitute acceptance of UAV Factory Terms and Conditions of Sale, set forth herein and in any Quotation provided by UAV Factory. These Terms and Conditions shall supersede any inconsistent provisions contained on Buyer’s Purchase Order.
  2. Product Specifications: The specifications provided on our website, literature, or in any written quotations are intended to be accurate. However, UAV Factory reserves the right to change specifications and makes no claim about the suitability of its products for any particular intended purpose.
  3. Purchaser’s Property If the Purchase Order includes work to be done on property or material supplied by Purchaser, UAV Factory shall not be liable for any loss or damage to Purchaser’s property during UAV Factory’s manufacturing process, unless the loss or damage was the result of the negligence or other willful act on the part of UAV FACTORY.
  4. Pricing: Published prices are subject to change without notice. Failure to object to the price change on custom order after notice shall be deemed to be acceptance of the price change. Prices are FOB Riga, Latvia and do not include freight, duty and insurance fees and export licenses if required. Prices quoted are exclusive of, and Buyer agrees to pay, any state or local excise, sales, use, VAT, personal property or any other tax. Prices quoted are held for 30 days, unless quoted otherwise.

  7. Shipping Terms; Insurance: UAV Factory assures proper packaging and will ship by any method selected by UAV Factory, unless otherwise specified in Buyer’s Purchase Order. Shipping and handling charges are prepaid and added to Buyer’s invoice. UAV Factory may, in its discretion, provide insurance for the shipment, unless specifically requested to provide insurance by Buyer in the Purchase Order. Any insurance requested shall be prepaid by Buyer or added to Buyer’s invoice. UAV Factory shall not be liable for loss or damage to the goods after delivery of the product to a common carrier.
  8. Terms of Payment: Orders for delivery to Buyers must be fully prepaid in US dollars or, Euros, unless specified differently in the formal quotation. UAV Factory LTD only accepts mayor credit cards or bank wire transfers.
  9. Warranties: Stock Products: UAV Factory products are warranted to meet or exceed the stated specifications, and to be free from defects in material or workmanship. This warranty shall be valid for thirty days from invoice date and is subject to the Return Policy set forth in these Terms and Conditions.
  1. Custom Products: Specially manufactured or custom products are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects and meet your written specifications only. This warranty is valid for sixty days from invoice date and is subject to the Return Policy set forth in these Terms and Conditions.
  2. Return Policy:
    Stock Products: If Buyer believes that a product is defective or did not meet UAV Factory stated specifications, Buyer may return the product within 30 days of invoice date. Prior to return of the product, Buyer must obtain a RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER. No product will be processed without a RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER. Buyer should then pack the product carefully and return it to UAV Factory, freight prepaid, together with an explanatory note and the RETURN AUTORIZATION NUMBER. The returned product must be in the original package and free of any defect or damage caused by shipping. If UAV Factory finds that the product does not meet the specifications set forth in paragraph 8 for stock products, UAV Factory shall, at its sole option, either refund the purchase price, repair the defect, or replace the product. If UAV Factory determines that the returned product meets the specifications set forth in paragraph 8 for stock products, then UAV Factory shall refund the Buyer the purchase price, less a 25% restocking fee.
    Custom Products: Custom products may not be returned unless they do not meet Buyer’s specifications or contain a manufacturing defect. If Buyer believes that a custom product is defective or did not meet the Buyer’s specifications, Buyer may return the product within 60 days of invoice date Prior to return of the product, Buyer must obtain a RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER. No product will be processed without a RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER. Buyer should then pack the product carefully and return it to UAV Factory, freight prepaid, together with an explanatory note and the RETURN AUTORIZATION NUMBER.   3. Proprietary Rights:
    UAV Factory shall retain all rights to technical data and information, whether patentable or not, arising out of or evolving as a result of the manufacture of products meeting Buyer’s specifications. Buyer agrees not to assert against UAV Factory any patent rights the scope of which is included within the manufacture of products delivered hereunder by UAV Factory, and which relate to an invention made by or for Buyer on a date subsequent to the date of delivery of the product to Buyer.
    Buyer warrants that the use of any product purchased from UAV Factory shall not infringe on the proprietary rights of third parties. If Buyer has purchased a Custom product, Buyer further warrants that it has proprietary rights to the specifications provided to UAV Factory and that no third-party has any proprietary claim to the specifications, other than as may exist in the public domain.
  4. Disclaimer: UAV Factory LTD cannot be liable and responsible for the usage of the airframe as a part of UAV systems. Also please consult with your local regulatory authorities about the UAV systems flights rules and regulations.
  5. Governing Law: This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Latvian Republic.

 

 

Required Certificate of Authorization (COA)

Law Enforcement agencies must obtain a COA in order to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements for use of UAS in National Air Space. TBM will work act as intermediary to LE to assist in obtaining a COA for LE customers. This process is lengthy and complicated though our experienced personnel will make the process much easier.

Available Grants

Due to the autonomous UAVs capabilities, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies may be able to obtain 100% funding to purchase and maintain a UAS of their own. Performance

Sleek and efficient design gives best in class performance. Highly efficient composite wing has an aspect ratio of 12.8 and as result minimal drag due to lift. Optimized for endurance, Penguin B has enough internal volume to lift 6.5+ liters of fuel which will provide up to 10 hours of endurance* with 2.5 kg payload. The plain flp high lift flap system provides stall speeds of <18 m/s while giving excellent flight handling qualities due to a well designed V-tail geometry.

 

Payload Module

Penguin B has a swappable payload module that can be removed in seconds and used for various payloads. Payload module is inserted from the underneath of fuselage and includes a large section of the lower fuselage surface to faciliate the installation of camera gimbals, antennas and heat radiators. Payload module can be optionally sealed.

 

GPS Cover

Penguin B includes many innovative feature you won't find anywhere else. Penguin's wing has special GPS cover and the internal wing space allocated for the GPS receiver and the ground plane. Cover is made from thin rf-transparent glass fiber and provides clean flow over the fuselage


 

Fuselage Cover

To keep avionics and payload protected from environment, fuselage covers have soft neoprene seal that is installed in a molded groove.

 

Powerplant

There is plenty of space allocated for the engine, generator and ignition module. We can supply Penguin B with a preinstalled 28 cc pusher two stroke gas engine that gives plenty of power for up to 10 kg of payload or 11.5 kg of payload and fuel combined.

 

Composite Structure

Penguin B is an all composite airframe made from a glass fiber and carbon fiber. Composite sandwich structure gives superb weight to strength ratio and makes airframe feather light. Penguin B - an airframe that will give you top of the class performance any time, anywhere.

UAV Penguin B Engine/Servo Package

If you would like to reduce time spent on component integration and get to autonomous flight as soon as possible, UAV Factory offers engine and servo package that can be factory installed into our Penguin B composite airframe.

This package will help you to concentrate on directly increasing your product value, developing your custom unmanned solution or research, testing and validation of your product.

Purpose designed engine mount

Package includes a purpose developed custom vibration damping mount that houses a reliable two stroke, 28 cc pusher gas engine. Two levels of vibration dampers isolates the payload bay from harmful vibrations throughout the entire flight envelope.

 

Pre-installed servos

Servos come pre-installed into the airframe. Wing and tail plane control surfaces have factory installed CNC machined aluminum mounts that allow quick servo access.

 

Pre-installed fuel system

Fuselage comes with pre-installed fuel system. The total volume of two fuel tanks is 3000 cc.


 

Pre-installed propulsion system

Engine with servos, linkages and vibration mount comes pre-installed. Pre-cut spinner, engine cowl, preinstalled silencer and matched propeller is also provided

 

Pre-installed accessories

Fuel tubing, wheels, fuel dot, vent dot, servo linkages and cover fittings are provided with this package.

 

Marked checkpoints

Airframe has pre-marked and numbered red checkpoints for all mechanical joints that need to be checked prior to flight.


 

UAV Penguin B 4 servo V-tail Option

In order to substantially increase the reliability of the system, TBM can install additional servos into the V-tail control surfaces.

In case any of the tail-plane servos fails, UAV can safely return home and land.

4-servo V-tail upgrade is an option which is installed at the factory into a Penguin B. This is not an upgrade that is for sale separately which the customer can install to retrofit an existing model due to the wiring in the booms.

WARNING - Gasoline and Turbine powered R/C model aircraft are not manufactured to withstand unlimited G's. Any R/C model aircraft can fail, be it a wing folding up or a fuselage breaking in half under too high of a load. Just as any full size aircraft, model R/C aircraft have a maximum G rating. Because you are not in the plane flying it and experiencing the G's and reading the G-meter, it is more difficult to judge the G's on the aircraft, and it is very easy to exceed the limits of the aircraft. Understand that if you perform a snap roll, parachute, wall, blender, knife edge loop, or pull hard on the elevator at almost any speed, you can be putting in excess of 15 G's, even in excess of 30 G's, and most aircraft can only designed to take 10-12 G's. If you perform any violent maneuver, you can break your plane. When I perform hard maneuvers, especially for the first time on an airframe, I am prepared for a failure and am prepared for it as best I can be. This mainly includes performing the maneuver far enough away from spectators that in event of a failure that I am not endangering others. In addition, be prepared for the manufacturer to not pay for a new airframe which is broken during flight. It is common practice for any manufacturer to not replace an airframe which breaks in the air or upon landing. I have only seen manufacturers replace airframes when they have received many of the same failures and the manufacturer determines that there was a design or manufacturing error. If you break an airframe, and you are the only one to do so, then it is probably not the fault of the manufacturer. Please fly safely, and avoid full throttle operation other than at low airspeeds.

R/C model jets, warbirds, aerobatic planes, DJI S1000 Octocopter, and UAV Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to name a few are not a toy! If misused, it can cause serious bodily harm and property damage. Fly only in open areas, and AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) approved flying sites. Follow all manufacturer instructions included with your plane, radio, servo's, batteries and engine. Aircraft manufacturers guarantees each kit to be free from defects in both material and workmanship at the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover any component assembled by the customer. All parts of high stress must be inspected and reinforced if necessary by a competent builder. Some parts should be glued again. High stress areas such as firewalls, motor boxes, wing mounts, landing gear mounts, etc., are areas of high concern. Seek help if necessary. In not case shall TBM be liable for the cost of any product it offers which is not manufactured by TBM. The liability to the manufacturer cannot exceed the original cost of the purchased item. Further, TBM reserves the right to change or modify this warranty without notice. In that TBM has no control over the final assembly or materials used for final assembly, no liability shall be assumed nor accepted for any damage resulting from the use by the user of the final user-assembled product. By the act of using the user assembled product, the user accepts all resulting liability. The kit manufacturers have provided you with a top quality, thoroughly tested kit and instructions, but ultimately the quality and fly ability of your finished model depends on how you build it; therefore, we cannot in any way guarantee the performance of your completed model, and no representations are expressed or implied as to the performance or safety of your completed model.
