The complete system is named PAMS (Personal Aerial Mapping System), the plane is called SmartOne, the latest version is generation C.

Area covered in one day: PAMS produces high quality photomaps or even 3-D models. To achieve this very his resolution, photos require a high overlap of 75- 80 %. This reduces the area covered compared versus low overlap which gives a good view, though cannot create orthophotos or 3-D. A single block from an altitude of 300 m cover app. 250-300 acres . It is possible to fly 8 blocks a day. Flying 8 hours will cover 2400 acres which is possible if there is limited travel between takeoffs, and the days are long which offer more time for overhead sunlight.

Once you have your photos, the basic software stitches all the photos together to make one large photo term “mosaic”. This is done by  having the photos taken such that the borders overlap. For standard 2D mosaics, the overlap is small, about 20%. If a high quality 2D image is required, then the overlap must be larger, about 50%. If one desires a 3D model, then the overlap is as high as 80%.

To have a high resolution 3D map, there are a few companies which offer this service. The photos are sent to them and for a fee they are turned into 3D mosaics and returned to the customer. Mosaic Mill and Pix4D http://pix4d.com/ are two such services. Here are some videos to explain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ-nCgBXZ5I

SmartPlanes manufactures a lightweight Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) equipped with an autopilot and digital camera that is a simple and inexpensive tool for aerial photography over smaller areas. The plane flies automatically over a pre-defined area of interest and takes photos on a regular grid. The resulting photos can be processed to produce detailed photo maps or even make accurate surface height measurements.

Many time-critical mapping and monitoring tasks can be done more effectively with small UAS than with conventional manned aircraft or point surveys. In fact, this technology opens up many new applications for aerial survey where conventional methods would be impractical, too dangerous or prohibitively expensive.

Our goal is to integrate modern UAS technology together with advanced data processing software into a highly automated system that can be operated by non-specialists. After an intensive period of development and field testing, we are pleased to offer our Personal Aerial Mapping System (PAMS) as a turn-key solution for geospatial data providers and end users.

PAMS  is a complete package of hardware and software that makes it possible for a single operator to do aerial survey and mapping over small areas on-demand. PAMS is very flexible, using the same equipment and methodology to produce a quick overview map in the field, or to compute advanced 3-D surface height models and true orthophotos. The resulting map data is ideal for various GIS applications since it is uniform in scale and georeferenced to a map projection. With the PAMS system, a single person can quickly and easily complete a mapping mission which would otherwise require advanced planning and special expertise using conventional methods, this saves both time and money.

All equipment is easily carried to a suitable takeoff location A small laptop is used in the field for flight planning and monitoring a gentle toss sends SmartOne on its way

The PAMS system is not an experimental project or “do-it-yourself” kit, but rather is an integrated system specifically designed for aerial survey and mapping. It has been successfully tested over several years in a number of application areas by our development team and our customers.

The system is easy to operate for non-specialists with basic experience in R/C aircraft.  Flight planning is very straightforward, using only an arbitrary rectangular area to specify a photo mission area of interest.  The details of waypoints, photo strips and turns are taken care of automatically in the autopilot’s navigation code.

SmartOne packs in an aluminum case for safe transport system components are transported in rugged cases SmartOne wing is quickly assembled without tools

Our custom designed flying wing is very robust and is intended for professional use with takeoff and landings in typical field conditions.  It is very wind tolerant compared to other aircraft with similar takeoff weight and flying speed.  An elegance and simplicity of design makes it very reliable and easy to repair in the field.

PAMS is designed to operate within existing regulatory restrictions for unmanned aircraft and is currently approved for use in Sweden and satisfies permit requirements in several other countries. The system poses minimal risk to bystanders and other aircraft due to its small size and low kinetic energy plus generous use of soft materials in the construction.

Allied countries of the United States regarding shipment of any products from TBM

WARNING - Gasoline and Turbine powered R/C model aircraft are not manufactured to withstand unlimited G's. Any R/C model aircraft can fail, be it a wing folding up or a fuselage breaking in half under too high of a load. Just as any full size aircraft, model R/C aircraft have a maximum G rating. Because you are not in the plane flying it and experiencing the G's and reading the G-meter, it is more difficult to judge the G's on the aircraft, and it is very easy to exceed the limits of the aircraft. Understand that if you perform a snap roll, parachute, wall, blender, knife edge loop, or pull hard on the elevator at almost any speed, you can be putting in excess of 15 G's, even in excess of 30 G's, and most aircraft can only designed to take 10-12 G's. If you perform any violent maneuver, you can break your plane. When I perform hard maneuvers, especially for the first time on an airframe, I am prepared for a failure and am prepared for it as best I can be. This mainly includes performing the maneuver far enough away from spectators that in event of a failure that I am not endangering others. In addition, be prepared for the manufacturer to not pay for a new airframe which is broken during flight. It is common practice for any manufacturer to not replace an airframe which breaks in the air or upon landing. I have only seen manufacturers replace airframes when they have received many of the same failures and the manufacturer determines that there was a design or manufacturing error. If you break an airframe, and you are the only one to do so, then it is probably not the fault of the manufacturer. Please fly safely, and avoid full throttle operation other than at low airspeeds.

R/C model jets, warbirds, aerobatic planes and UAV Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to name a few are not a toy! If misused, it can cause serious bodily harm and property damage. Fly only in open areas, and AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) approved flying sites. Follow all manufacturer instructions included with your plane, radio, servo's, batteries and engine. Aircraft manufacturers guarantees each kit to be free from defects in both material and workmanship at the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover any component assembled by the customer. All parts of high stress must be inspected and reinforced if necessary by a competent builder. Some parts should be glued again. High stress areas such as firewalls, motor boxes, wing mounts, landing gear mounts, etc., are areas of high concern. Seek help if necessary. In not case shall TBM be liable for the cost of any product it offers which is not manufactured by TBM. The liability to the manufacturer cannot exceed the original cost of the purchased item. Further, TBM reserves the right to change or modify this warranty without notice. In that TBM has no control over the final assembly or materials used for final assembly, no liability shall be assumed nor accepted for any damage resulting from the use by the user of the final user-assembled product. By the act of using the user assembled product, the user accepts all resulting liability. The kit manufacturers have provided you with a top quality, thoroughly tested kit and instructions, but ultimately the quality and fly ability of your finished model depends on how you build it; therefore, we cannot in any way guarantee the performance of your completed model, and no representations are expressed or implied as to the performance or safety of your completed model. It is the user's responsibility to inspect each component for worthiness.
