Tips for Electric Conversion: Click here to view a RCU thread on electric conversion of a Hurricane This size motor, the E-Flight Power 160 or equivalent is more than enough power for the 80” ESM planes. It can also be used with the 72” ESM planes with smaller batteries.

This JU87B Stuka 80" wingspan airplane is produced by ESM in China. ESM has been importing planes into the US for many years, so the company and its products are well proven and are some of the best in the industry.

ESM planes are factory painted to scale, have pre-applied decals which are covered with a clear coat, have functional flaps if standard on the full scale version, and most hardware included (screws, rods, fuel tanks etc...).

All ESM planes are painted with a very high quality enamel paint which is resistant to oil, grease, and fuels. The high gloss paints are of course easier to clean than the low gloss. These paints can be painted over for weathering and the like.

Most fuselages are epoxy resin fiberglass. The wings are typically built up, then covered with Solartex fabric and painted.

ESM planes are very high quality at a very reasonable price. They come with conventional gear and wheels in the kit. If the full scale model had retracts, the retracts are available separately. Retracts add a level of complexity to the model which is for more experienced pilots. Some planes offer scale accessories like bombs, gear doors, pilots, external fuel tanks and more separately for those builders who want more scale realism.

TBM carries some spare parts for ESM planes. Check out the ESM warranty for further information on spare parts. These planes look and fly very realistically. You will not find a better model anywhere even close to these prices. ESM is continually producing new products. Most of these new products will be 80” wingspan or larger to meet the needs for IMAA. We are confident that you will be happy with your model.

The Ju-87 is the quintessential German WWII aircraft. The Stuka, which is short for Sturzkampfflugzeug (dive bomber),served with distinction in almost every theatre. It was one of the keys to the early victories of the Wehrmacht in Poland, France, and around the Mediterranean.

In the Blitzkreig of Poland in 1939 and the early 1940's offensive operations, it acted as mobile artillery ahead of the Wehrmacht's fast moving armoured troops. With its screaming dive siren, the Stuka spread fear amongst troops on the recieving end of its attacks. The aircraft's lines were quite unique with inverted gull wings and an angular and aggressive appearing fuselage.

Almost 6000 were produced, and they were used from North Africa to the coasts of England, and from Norway to the Russian steppes. They also saw service during the Spanish Revolution.

By the end of 1940 the Stuka was essentially obsolescent, however, the development of new ground attack aircraft was proceeding very slowly, the Germans began developing an improved version of the Stuka. The D version, also known as the Dora mated the proven Stuka airframe to an upgraded engine, increased the range and upgraded the armour.

The Dora version, saw extensive service on every front of the German war effort. Hans Rudel, the most decorated German pilot of WWII flew a Dora. Rudel used the Stuka to sink a WWI era Russian battleship in Leningrad harbour. By February 1945, Rudel had flown over 1800 sorties, and destroyed over 202 tanks with his Stuka before being badly wounded after being hit by 40mm anti-aircraft fire. His life was saved by his observer, but his right leg had to be amputated. Amazingly, he returned to service and destroyed 26 more tanks before surrendering to US forces in May 1945. By the end of the war he had flown 2530 sorties and destroyed 2000 ground targets, sunk a battleship, 2 cruisers and a destroyer. He ended the war as the most decorated German pilot of all time, and compiled a world record for most operational sorties by any pilot. His skills were later influential in the development of the A-10 Warthog II by the US military in the 1970's. Without his trusty Stuka, Rudel would never have achieved his remarkable career.

Here at Troy Built Models, we, as modelers ourselves, know what it is like to bring home a new plane only to have to go out to buy what you'll need to finish your plane, and get it up in the air. We also understand that while ESM does included a very complete hardware package, you will still need to get your own radio, gear, engine, etc. In order to help you, our loyal customers, we have put together as comprehensive a list as we can to include what you'll need to finish your new airplane.

We made this list to make it easier for you to order what you'll need at the same time as when you order your plane here at TBM, so that we can ship it all to you at the same time. Look over our list, and pick and chose what you'll need and it will be added to your shopping cart.

Disclaimer: We may not have covered all of items totally needed for every airplane. Personal choice and use in the past is another variable. As modelers ourselves, we tried to think of most of the accessories you might need. This way, the accessories will arrive with your kit and you can get started immediately. Since we post out manuals on line as well, you can be looking at it before the plane gets to you. If you feel we have missed something, let us know by emailing us. Thank you for your support and contribution.

WARNING - Gasoline and Turbine powered R/C model aircraft are not manufactured to withstand unlimited G's. Any R/C model aircraft can fail, be it a wing folding up or a fuselage breaking in half under too high of a load. Just as any full size aircraft, model R/C aircraft have a maximum G rating. Because you are not in the plane flying it and experiencing the G's and reading the G-meter, it is more difficult to judge the G's on the aircraft, and it is very easy to exceed the limits of the aircraft. Understand that if you perform a snap roll, parachute, wall, blender, knife edge loop, or pull hard on the elevator at almost any speed, you can be putting in excess of 15 G's, even in excess of 30 G's, and most aircraft can only designed to take 10-12 G's. If you perform any violent maneuver, you can break your plane. When I perform hard maneuvers, especially for the first time on an airframe, I am prepared for a failure and am prepared for it as best I can be. This mainly includes performing the maneuver far enough away from spectators that in event of a failure that I am not endangering others. In addition, be prepared for the manufacturer to not pay for a new airframe which is broken during flight. It is common practice for any manufacturer to not replace an airframe which breaks in the air or upon landing. I have only seen manufacturers replace airframes when they have received many of the same failures and the manufacturer determines that there was a design or manufacturing error. If you break an airframe, and you are the only one to do so, then it is probably not the fault of the manufacturer. Please fly safely, and avoid full throttle operation other than at low airspeeds.

R/C model jets, warbirds, and aerobatic planes to name a few are not a toy! If misused, it can cause serious bodily harm and property damage. Fly only in open areas, and AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) approved flying sites. Follow all manufacturer instructions included with your plane, radio, servo's, batteries and engine. Aircraft manufacturers guarantees each kit to be free from defects in both material and workmanship at the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover any component assembled by the customer. All parts of high stress must be inspected and reinforced if necessary by a competent builder. Some parts should be glued again. High stress areas such as firewalls, motor boxes, wing mounts, landing gear mounts, etc., are areas of high concern. Seek help if necessary. In not case shall TBM be liable for the cost of any product it offers which is not manufactured by TBM. The liability to the manufacturer cannot exceed the original cost of the purchased item. Further, TBM reserves the right to change or modify this warranty without notice. In that TBM has no control over the final assembly or materials used for final assembly, no liability shall be assumed nor accepted for any damage resulting from the use by the user of the final user-assembled product. By the act of using the user assembled product, the user accepts all resulting liability. The kit manufacturers have provided you with a top quality, thoroughly tested kit and instructions, but ultimately the quality and fly ability of your finished model depends on how you build it; therefore, we cannot in any way guarantee the performance of your completed model, and no representations are expressed or implied as to the performance or safety of your completed model.
