DJI Spreading Wings Premium S1000 Octocopter

If you are looking for a professional product for inspections, precision agriculture, photography, cinematography, surveying and more, the S-1000 is the product for you. The S1000s V type mixer design provides large amounts of propulsion while improving power efficiency.

Combined with a DJI flight controllers like the A2, it is guaranteed to remain stable even with the loss of a rotor. Integrated into the center frame is a power distribution system using our patented coaxial cable connector. It is more efficient, reliable and easy to install and eliminates the need for soldering.

All frame arms as well as the retractable landing gear are made from carbon fiber, ensuring light weight and high structural stability. All eight arms can be completely folded down and the 1552 folding propeller can be tucked away, minimizing the S1000s size for transportation. To fly, simply lift the frame arms up, lock them in place with the red clips and power up the system. This greatly saves on pre-flight prep time.

Its main power cord uses an AS150 spark-proof plug and an XT150 plug, preventing users from mixing up polarity when plugging in the battery and preventing short circuits. There are two options for training, the 3 Day option below, or another 1 Day option for pilots who are more familiar with DJI or RC in general. We urge all people to take the training seriously and read though the DJI manuals for your equipment. All of the latest manuals are found on the DJI website with the most imortant manual being the A2 flight controller. If you have trouble finding these manuals please contact us!

$1,495 - TBM DJI Pilot Training Course (3 Days): DJI FACTORY CERTIFIED PILOT TRAINING PROGRAM

This 3-day course is required for individuals and employees of corporations to obtain factory training certificates. The fee is per person.
One instructor is authorized to train and certify a maximum of 2 students from the same company or organization simultaneously. Others from the same entity can participate in the ground school portion of the training at the same time at the same price per person. Maximum is 4 people total.
These certificates are instrumental in obtaining insurance for both liability and comprehensive coverage. Liability insurance up to $10 million is available through TBM certified insurance companies. Insurance is a requirement to be eligible for leasing and financing options.

Pilots will be certified with a type rating. Each aircraft has a particular type rating. The sensor is not part of the type rating. Each aircraft has a list of approved sensors. Only these sensors can be used without a special exemption. TBM can grant special exemptions for sensors to be used on DJI airframes. Sensors must not cause the airframe to be over its weight limit or cause other performance issues which may affect the safety of operation.

At the end of the final day a practical exam is administered to each pilot. The pilot must demonstrate a minimum level of competency to obtain certification.

Training is preferably performed on the student’s equipment. TBM has equipment for rent if required. Like equipment will be used, though the sensor may not be the exact same. For instance we typically use a Sony Nex7 camera for training. The equipment rental fee is $500 per day.
This course teaches the basics of safe operation though additional practice may be required for the pilot to become proficient in the use of equipment and quick reaction times in case of emergency.

Should weather cause disruption of training, the training will be extended as necessary for additional time.
The lead instructor is Gene Payson. Gene is the Director of sUAS Flight Training at Unmanned Vehicle University and owner of Troy Built Models. Unmanned Vehicle University offers courses on a variety of subjects for all types of Unmanned Vehicles. Troy Built Models sells, services and supports dozens of RC and sUAS products including DJI-Innovations, UAV Factory, Trigger Composites, PrecisionHawk, SmartPlanes, DragonLink, FPV Model, Fat Shark, and more.

This certificate is from UAV Flight School which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Troy Built Models. DJI-Innovations, the FAA, and other entities do not currently have certification requirements. The test has been developed entirely by UAV Flight Schools.

FACTORY TRAINED INDIVIDUALS

The following people took the Factory training course for the said products.

Many sUAS factories do not have their own factory training courses and do not endorse any outside training providers for liability reasons. Several courses were developed completely by Troy Built Models, Inc. Some courses were developed in conjunction with sUAS factories, some were not. The courses are a minimum of one day and do not include an proficency exam. Students who grasp the main principles taught in the class pass the course. All students are not deemed experts at the conclusion of the course. Some students certainly are experts at the conclusion of the course if their skill level was very high before taking the course. Exams are available separately. Typically students take the exam from TBM after they had time to practice their skills for a minimum of 10 hours either before or after the course. These exams are pass/fail. People who pass the exam exhibit excellent piloting and safety skills and are deemed low risk by TBM. Logbooks are to be kept.

Note to insurance providers and other organizations who potentially will be involved with the following individuals. The factory training is relegated to showing the operation of the products to the individuals. Individuals who pass the course have various skill levels. The courses provide basic training and it is up to the individual to practice on their own to have a high level of competency. While easy to learn to operate, all aerial vehicles are dangerous products which can cause serious damage to people or property. Individuals passing the course have a basic understanding of the equipment, but they are not necessarily extremely competent, low risk sUAS operators. We recommend that you request to see the pilots logbooks to see how many hours of flight time they have recorded, how many major incidents and the nature of the incidents the pilot had in the past, and customers should request the pilots insurance binder. Insurance policies typically range from $1 5 million for liability, and must be renewed annually.

Only airframes which are certified as airworthy can be insured. These typically have maintenance logbooks, flight logbooks, serial numbers of major components, onboard flight recorders, etc. These products are deemed safe by an authority. At this time TBM acts as such an authority to various insurance companies. TBM only endorses aircraft which incorporate a variety of safety features, have a proven track record of reliability, a responsible manufacturer who warranties their products and provides timely equipment, firmware and software updates, logbooks, etc.

Batteries for your S1000

We find that it is unrealistic for most commercial operations to field charge batteries of this size. Just charging one battery will use up all the power in a car battery. If you do charge in the field using a car, keep your car running! We find one great option for charging this battery is the Hitec H4 which offers 120 watts per each of its 4 ports. While this battery is 1000 watts and it takes 8 hours to charge at 120 watts per hour, the charger can be jumped so that it can charge two batteries at a time at 240 watts per each of the two channels. This shortens the charging time to 4 hours, but lets face it, this is a long time and not easily accomplished in the field. It is best to have 4 or 8 batteries and 1 or 2 of the 4-output chargers to charge up the batteries the night before. The TBM 1,000 watt charger also works well as it can output up to 40 amps/hour which will charge the largest batteries quite quickly. Field charging is better with a portable gas generator. A large transformer is required to convert AC power to DC to power the charger. If you do use 2 chargers simultaneously, then plug them into 2 different circuits in your building or you could blow the fuse. These are serious batteries which require lots of power.

WARNING - Gasoline and Turbine powered R/C model aircraft are not manufactured to withstand unlimited G's. Any R/C model aircraft can fail, be it a wing folding up or a fuselage breaking in half under too high of a load. Just as any full size aircraft, model R/C aircraft have a maximum G rating. Because you are not in the plane flying it and experiencing the G's and reading the G-meter, it is more difficult to judge the G's on the aircraft, and it is very easy to exceed the limits of the aircraft. Understand that if you perform a snap roll, parachute, wall, blender, knife edge loop, or pull hard on the elevator at almost any speed, you can be putting in excess of 15 G's, even in excess of 30 G's, and most aircraft can only designed to take 10-12 G's. If you perform any violent maneuver, you can break your plane. When I perform hard maneuvers, especially for the first time on an airframe, I am prepared for a failure and am prepared for it as best I can be. This mainly includes performing the maneuver far enough away from spectators that in event of a failure that I am not endangering others. In addition, be prepared for the manufacturer to not pay for a new airframe which is broken during flight. It is common practice for any manufacturer to not replace an airframe which breaks in the air or upon landing. I have only seen manufacturers replace airframes when they have received many of the same failures and the manufacturer determines that there was a design or manufacturing error. If you break an airframe, and you are the only one to do so, then it is probably not the fault of the manufacturer. Please fly safely, and avoid full throttle operation other than at low airspeeds.

R/C model jets, warbirds, aerobatic planes, DJI S1000 Octocopter, and UAV Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to name a few are not a toy! If misused, it can cause serious bodily harm and property damage. Fly only in open areas, and AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) approved flying sites. Follow all manufacturer instructions included with your plane, radio, servo's, batteries and engine. Aircraft manufacturers guarantees each kit to be free from defects in both material and workmanship at the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover any component assembled by the customer. All parts of high stress must be inspected and reinforced if necessary by a competent builder. Some parts should be glued again. High stress areas such as firewalls, motor boxes, wing mounts, landing gear mounts, etc., are areas of high concern. Seek help if necessary. In not case shall TBM be liable for the cost of any product it offers which is not manufactured by TBM. The liability to the manufacturer cannot exceed the original cost of the purchased item. Further, TBM reserves the right to change or modify this warranty without notice. In that TBM has no control over the final assembly or materials used for final assembly, no liability shall be assumed nor accepted for any damage resulting from the use by the user of the final user-assembled product. By the act of using the user assembled product, the user accepts all resulting liability. The kit manufacturers have provided you with a top quality, thoroughly tested kit and instructions, but ultimately the quality and fly ability of your finished model depends on how you build it; therefore, we cannot in any way guarantee the performance of your completed model, and no representations are expressed or implied as to the performance or safety of your completed model. It is the user's responsibility to inspect each component for worthiness.
