Electrical

I offer a select group of accessories that I use in my aircraft. To outfit a giant scale plane you want to put in the best equipment possible at the lowest possible price. I have checked out lots of products and found what works best for me and offer it here. This gives you one stop shopping for items you'd normally have to order from several companies. In some cases, like wing tubes and Li Ion battery packs, we couldn't find affordable ones, so we made them ourselves!

This is actually two switches in one, and it will draw from each battery equally! the switches are fail safe, solid state switches. It is failsafe, so a failure goes to the on position. Has 22ga wire. Uses 2 slider switches to turn it on and off. Has 2 external charge jacks to charge and check batteries. Slightly larger than one JR switch, much smaller and lighter than 2 JR switches. This switch works with batteries up to 10v. If the two batteries connected to it are unequal in charge or unequal in size, it doesn't matter, the Wolverine will draw from the two batteries in such a way that the two batteries will quickly become equal in state of discharge. In other words, if you have a 5200 mah which is 70% charged and a 2400 mah battery 50% charged, The 5200 mah battery will be used first until it reaches a 50% charge state, and then both batteries will be used such that when they are checked they will both be 45% charged, then 40% charged and so on. Really a great device because it is seldom that two batteries, even if they are the same capacities and same charge states, are discharged equally. The thumbnail at the left gives more information.

Recommended for Rx's, as well as DA & BME ignitions This is a new product for 2008. It is the replacement for the original MPI Miracle Switch. This offers an adjustable regulator with two power leads in and two power leads out. It also offers a miracle switch which connects to the regulator via a yellow JR type connector. If the switch or the connector to the switch fails, the switch fails in the on position to keep power flowing to the Rx. The advantages of this system over the original MPI Miracle switch is that it is not only adjustable so that you can get just the right voltage to your servos, but it costs less because you only need one, not two of them to give you the redundancy of two batteries!

Smart-Fly Failsafe Regulator with On/Off Switch

The Smart-Fly failsafe regulator with on/off switch is a linear voltage regulator designed specifically for the demands of larger aircraft. Linear regulators operate in a noise-free way so they do not interfere with the radio in any way. The regulator will provide an adjustable output from approximately 5.2 to 6.7 volts. The regulator is rated a continuous 5 amps for an input of 8.4volts and an output of 6.0 volts, with surge currents to 9A. The Regulator will accept an input voltage of up to 13 volts. The continuous current rating will vary depending on the input to output voltage range (which can be computed by Amps = 12/(Vin-Vout)).

Smart-Fly Quest Inline Servo Regulator 5.2v, JR connectors
This is a single servo regulator which can supply up to 3 amps. The need for this regulator is when using a power system which is running at high voltage, like a Li-poly or Li-ion without a regulator.

There are many high powered servos available, but the problem is how to cut the voltage back on other servos in the plane which don't run at high voltage. Use this in-line regulator for each servo you want to operate at lower voltage. It is set for 5.2v so it is perfect for gyros, air valves, throttle, choke and other functions.

WARNING - Gasoline and Turbine powered R/C model aircraft are not manufactured to withstand unlimited G's. Any R/C model aircraft can fail, be it a wing folding up or a fuselage breaking in half under too high of a load. Just as any full size aircraft, model R/C aircraft have a maximum G rating. Because you are not in the plane flying it and experiencing the G's and reading the G-meter, it is more difficult to judge the G's on the aircraft, and it is very easy to exceed the limits of the aircraft. Understand that if you perform a snap roll, parachute, wall, blender, knife edge loop, or pull hard on the elevator at almost any speed, you can be putting in excess of 15 G's, even in excess of 30 G's, and most aircraft can only designed to take 10-12 G's. If you perform any violent maneuver, you can break your plane. When I perform hard maneuvers, especially for the first time on an airframe, I am prepared for a failure and am prepared for it as best I can be. This mainly includes performing the maneuver far enough away from spectators that in event of a failure that I am not endangering others. In addition, be prepared for the manufacturer to not pay for a new airframe which is broken during flight. It is common practice for any manufacturer to not replace an airframe which breaks in the air or upon landing. I have only seen manufacturers replace airframes when they have received many of the same failures and the manufacturer determines that there was a design or manufacturing error. If you break an airframe, and you are the only one to do so, then it is probably not the fault of the manufacturer. Please fly safely, and avoid full throttle operation other than at low airspeeds.

R/C model jets, warbirds, and aerobatic planes to name a few are not a toy! If misused, it can cause serious bodily harm and property damage. Fly only in open areas, and AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) approved flying sites. Follow all manufacturer instructions included with your plane, radio, servo's, batteries and engine. Aircraft manufacturers guarantees each kit to be free from defects in both material and workmanship at the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover any component assembled by the customer. All parts of high stress must be inspected and reinforced if necessary by a competent builder. Some parts should be glued again. High stress areas such as firewalls, motor boxes, wing mounts, landing gear mounts, etc., are areas of high concern. Seek help if necessary.
