If you notice that your engine runs poorly when in a certain attitude like inverted or knife edge, it may be because the air is entering the cowl in a different manner and is going directly onto the carb diaphram plate. The diaphram plate has a small hole in it so as to detect the pressure of the atmosphere. If air is blowing into the hole, the carb is tricked into thinking that the air pressure is too high. If air comes in a different direction, it may cause a vacuum tricking the carb into thinking that the air pressure is too low. There are several fixes for this problem. A plate in front of the hole helps in most situations.
