OTHER PAGES YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS

Looking for an experienced builder to help you complete your latest project? Would you like someone local? Someone experienced in building the plane that you've chosen be it a TBM plane or another brand? Someone who knows the best hardware, engine, propeller, servos, batteries, wiring, switches, spinners, landing gear and more, and knows where to get them, how to install them properly, and how to get the best price? There are many knowledgeable custom builders across the country who can help you out. This is the place to find them (for FREE).

We are starting this listing on September 1, 2002. If you are a knowledgeable custom builder anywhere in the United States, we want to hear from you click here. If you are a pilot who has had excellent work done by a builder who should be on this list, we want to hear from you so we can contact him click here. If you are looking for a custom builder, please check out the listings below. The information may be incomplete, but be assured that we are working on obtaining more information on each person. Most builders on this page specialize in giant scale aerobatic aircraft, though builders of scale, jets, and other aircraft are welcome as well.

We realize that there is a need for pilots to have work performed by qualified builders. If you don't like the quality of ARF's and prefer a unique model, this list of builders will help you get the model that you want.

HOW IT WORKS:

We suggest that the following method for obtaining a completed project to be as follows. THIS IS JUST A GUIDELINE. Contact the builder and work out the details directly before the start of the project.
1) The pilot looks for a builder on this page which is organized by state. Each state listed has one or more builders. Click on the state you live in AND remember that some builders are willing to do work around the country, so check out neighboring states as well.
2) Find someone who builds the type of models you are interested in, look at the references and experience and decide on the best builder(s) for your project based on the information available.
3) Contact the builder(s) for a quote for the exact work which you want done. If you just want the plane finished for covering, or just covered, or covered with engine and/or radio installed, that is fine. Each builder is independent and will provide a written quote for the work to be done. Method of payment is to be worked out with the builder beforehand (cash, check, charge, money order, etc.). It is usually in everyone's best interest to find a builder who is close to the pilot that shipping can be eliminated. Some builders are willing to drive hundreds of miles to meet part way to deliver a plane.
4) The pilot decides whether he or she will purchase the other components required for the custom builder or whether the custom builder will purchase the components required (fuel tank, glue, covering etc.). Generally the custom builder will provide a quote of labor only with components broken out separately. Often times the builder buys some parts and the pilot buys some parts and sends them to the builder. If the expense of the parts that the builder buys is $l00 or more (engine, prop, servos, etc.), the builder is often paid up front to purchase the parts.
5) Once the pilot has accepted a quote, the pilot purchases the airplane directly from TBM or other manufacturer and arranges for shipping to the builder. Generally the pilot pays the manufacturer directly for the airplane kit.
6) Once the plane is finished to the pilot's satisfaction, the builder is paid and the pilot takes home his new project. Generally, the builder receives payment in full when the work is completed and the plane is delivered.
7) At delivery, the builder gives a run down of all the nuances of the plane to assure many successful flights.

DISCLAIMER:

(There is always a disclaimer isn't there?) TBM provides this service for FREE. There is no cost to the builder to have information posted, and there is no cost for a pilot to contact the builder through this network. Therefore, TBM does not in any way guarantee the a) workmanship b) cost c) timing d) or anything else of these builders. However, TBM will attempt to police the list, and if a complaint is levied against any builder on this page, TBM, at its sole discretion will decide whether to allow the builder to continue to advertise on this page or not based on information from both parties. BUYER BEWARE is still important. TBM will not help to mediate disputes.
